THe gift of fasting
Fasting can lead to more freedom. We might not understand this right away, but step by step we experience it. More detail is included in the journal.
The exercise that helped me the most was giving up digital devices. By disconnecting from them, I became more away of how much they occupy my mind and how quickly they can consume me. I feel so much more free now!
The gift of fasting
* There can be personal or medical reasons to not fast from food. Magnificat 90 provides possiblities in those cases.
- Sleep at least 7 hours per day.
- Resist hitting snooze on the alarm clock.
- Reduce screen time and cut out unnecessary internet use.
- Only take in content (music, shows, books) that bring us closer to God.
- Be moderate in our phone usage. Not use it in the presence of others.
- Speak positively about others. No gossiping.
- Thinking positively about ourselves and others.
- Eat and drink moderately: discover how food can be experienced as nourishing and healing.
- Shower for a limit of 5 minutes per day.
- Daily exercise (walking, cycling, sports) for 20 minutes.
- No unnecessary purchases for ourselves.
Because Magnificat 90 coincided with my pregnancy, I hardly fasted from food. But I found so many other beautiful ways to make sacrifices! This made me more sensitive and helped me grow closer to God.
Jesus said to her, “Every one who drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst; the water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
